hey rachel, just to share my 2 cents worth: 1. you need to change your grip, too tight, thus you cant rotate racket to adjust to shots coming at you. 2. at ready position, you racket shoule by in front you. racket face facing forward(would need to relaz grip to do so). Also, your elbow is close to your body, it should be slightly to the front which leads us to the next point. 3. try hitting the shuttle in front of your body, not at the side of your body.racket head should be at net level. this allows you to better judge if you can drive it back or may need to play a upward shot if the shot has gone below your racket head(which means shuttle is below net level and you cant drive it back, it will just go into the net.) At a more advanced level, you can still drive it back, but this will come much later when you can control you power and direction of drive. 4.when hitting, right leg(since you are right handed should be forward, the weight should by on right leg when hitting as leverage will give addition power.(but then, at this pt learn to get the shuttle across first). moving you right leg forward when taking the shot will also allow you to take shuttle earlier than wait for it to come to you(you tend to take it a tack to late) 5. for your ht, try to take the shuttle when your upper arm is parallel to the floor(or try to keep upper arm parallel to floor when in ready position). be consious of this you have a higher chance of hitting a flat/down shot( which is the purpost of the drive) then bringing the shuttle up for attack. 6. last but not least, you swing stops when you hit the shuttle. ideally you would have HIT the shuttle to transfer full swing force, then follow thru to return racket to ready position. not SWING the racket at the shuttle, transfering little power to shuttle and wasted racket energy in the follow thru swing. Doing so would require added effort to pull racket but to position since there is still force of racket going forward after the shot. hope these helps

see rachelle, ur racket is always down after hitting the shuttle, u need to be always ready to intercept the shuttle by lifting the racket up again.
